True Costs Initiative was founded in 2016 under the leadership of its Executive Director, Conniel Malek. Each year, TCI provides flexible funding to over 60 organizations across the globe who share our commitment to preventing and reversing the true costs to land, life, and livelihood brought on by corporate behavior that prioritizes extractivist activities over community wellbeing.

TCI’s The Fifth Quarter Program was created to close the funding gap for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)- led organizations working in the areas of climate justice, racial justice, and rest and wellness.
