Office of Child Development, University of Pittsburgh

University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Child Development (OCD) to support PRIDE (Positive Racial Identity Development in Early Education). The P.R.I.D.E. Program is one of 6 divisions in the OCD. The fundamental program goal is to support the positive racial identity development of young black children aged 0 to 8. The primary way they embody the goal is by supporting the important adults in children’s lives by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and resources that enable them to help children understand race, themselves, their history, and their culture. Another goal of P.R.I.D.E. is to help parents, teachers, other professionals, and the broader community learn from the research and from hands on practice, ways in which to help children make sense of race and other differences, and better understand the ways children are impacted by race and racism in America.
